Hierarchical Local Model Reduction for Elliptic Problems: A Domain Decomposition Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
Some engineering applications, for instance related to fluid dynamics in pipe or channel networks, feature a dominant spatial direction along which the most relevant dynamics develop. Nevertheless, local features of the problem depending on the other directions, that we call transverse, can be locally relevant to the whole problem. We propose in the context of elliptic problems such as advection–diffusion–reaction equations, a hierarchical model reduction approach in which a coarse model featuring only the dominant direction dynamics is enriched locally by a fine model that accounts for the transverse variables via an appropriate modal expansion. We introduce a domain decomposition approach allowing us to employ a different number of modal functions in different parts of the domain according to the local complexity of the problem at hand. The methodology is investigated numerically on several test cases.

متن کاملFast domain decomposition algorithm for discretizations of 3-d elliptic equations by spectral elements
The main obstacle for obtaining fast domain decomposition solvers for the spectral element discretizations of the 2-nd order elliptic equations was the lack of fast solvers for local internal problems on subdomains of decomposition and their faces. As was recently shown by Korneev/Rytov, such solvers can be derived on the basis of the specific interrelation between the stiffness matrices of the...
متن کاملHeterogeneous Domain Decomposition for Singularly Perturbed Elliptic Boundary Value Problems
A heterogeneous domain-decomposition method is presented for the numerical solution of singularly perturbed elliptic boundary value problems. The method, which is parallelizable at various levels, uses several ideas of asymptotic analysis. The subdomains match the domains of validity of the local [ “inner” and “outer”) asymptotic expansions, and cut-off functions are used to match solutions in ...

Fast domain decomposition solver for internal problems of 3D hierarchical hp-FEM I. Anoufriev, V. Korneev Deriving fast domain decomposition (DD) preconditioners-solvers for hp discretizations of 2-nd order elliptic equations is still a challenge [1], although one pioneering solver of this type has been recently presented in [2] and generalized on adaptive hp discretizations in [3]. As it is we...
متن کاملA Systematic Coarse-Scale Model Reduction Technique for Parameter-Dependent Flows in Highly Heterogeneous Media and Its Applications
In this paper, we propose a multiscale approach for solving the parameter-dependent elliptic equation with highly heterogeneous coefficients. In particular, we assume that the coefficients have both small scales and high contrast (where the high contrast refers to the large variations in the coefficients). The main idea of our approach is to construct local basis functions that encode the local...
